The History of Silestone

Silestone is a global brand, with its products used in kitchens and bathrooms across the world. Touchstone Worktops are a proud supplier of Silestone surfaces, and in this article we’re taking a look at the history of the brand and how it came to enjoy the stature it does today.

1990: Silestone Debuts Silestone was first launched in 1990, starting life with just five colours in its catalogue: Gris Apolo, Rojo Marte, Azul Electra, Verde Medea and Beige Olimpico.

1992: Launch of Stellar Series In 1994, the Stellar series launched. Designed with shimmering particles that beautifully reflected light, the Stellar collection brought an element of the night sky into kitchens around the world.

2004: Antimicrobial Surface Launch and TIME Magazine Recognition

Silestone’s antimicrobial surface was launched in the US. This surface featured built-in protection against bacteria, making it the most hygienic surface in the world. Iconic magazine TIME recognised the surface as one of the most important innovations of the 21st century.

2005: Silestone at the SuperBowl

Silestone is advertised during the SuperBowl, one of the world’s biggest televised events, broadcast in 222 countries and 31 different languages. The commercial itself reaches an audience of 86 million people.

2005: Antimicrobial European Launch

Silestone hits the European market, expanding its reach even further and helping to cement its status as a leading innovation in the worktop industry.

2006: Leather Series

The Leather texture revolutionised the concept of countertops. The idea behind the texture was to provide the same high resistance of quartz but with a softer, matte finish to suit more design trends.

2008: Life Series

Until this point, Silestone’s beautiful surfaces used neutral shades, but that changed with the introduction of the ‘Life’ series. Striking, bright colours, from orange to lime green added zest to kitchens for the first time.

2009: Silestone Baños

Meaning ‘bathroom’, the Baños range encompassed sinks, shower trays and more, opening up a new market for the brand.

2009: ECO by Cosentino

Already a market-leading brand, Cosentino once again revolutionised the worktop industry with its new sustainable range. Made of 75% recycled material and 25% natural products, the ECO range was by far the most environmentally friendly on the market.

2011: Integrity Sinks

Sitting flush with their quartz worktops, the Integrity Sink was Silestone’s next innovation. The sinks were available in the same stunning range of colours as their surfaces, and the way they fit into the worktop created a seamless appearance.

2015: 25 Years of Silestone

In 2015, Silestone celebrated its 25th birthday, doing so by extending its warranty to 25 years.

Currently, Silestone is available in more than 80 countries, with numerous ranges of beautiful styles to cater for every taste.
