Kitchen Trends 2014

Another year means another selection of kitchen trends to pore over, and with so many to choose from it can be quite a tough task to make a final choice. For traditional and modern kitchens alike, there have been several highly popular design choices that have graced kitchens up and down the country. Natural Stone IMG_0912A popular choice in kitchens for years, 2014 has seen a wider and more innovative use of materials like quartz, marble and granite. One such use of natural stone surfaces is ‘backsplashes’, using them behind appliances such as ovens to create a beautiful focal point and add some creativity to an otherwise plain wall. The unique patterns that adorn quartz, marble and granite surfaces mean that no two backsplashes will be the same. Open Shelving While this style may not be applicable for storing everything in your kitchen, replacing cabinets with open shelving can create a superb impression, as well as adding a sense of spaciousness, which can be particularly helpful in smaller kitchens. Open shelving is perfect for things like plates and bowls, and it can also make reaching them slightly easier. Monochrome kitchen-1640439_640Simple, yet incredibly effective, monochrome interiors have been very popular this year. Relying on the contrast of white and black. If this style is combined with carefully chosen features such as sinks, taps and accents, you can create a fantastic interior that works seamlessly with both modern and traditional kitchens.   Corner Sinks On paper, the idea of a corner sink can seem a little strange – most sinks are in the middle of a counter with space on either side, so to put one in the corner of your kitchen might strike you as confusing. However, if you have a smaller kitchen, a corner sink can save you a lot of space without affecting the usefulness of the sink itself. Fitting just as easily into your kitchen as a regular sink, the wide variety of designs means that a corner sink is an option for everyone. Intuitive Lighting Used in every kitchen but often taken for granted, lighting is incredibly important for enhancing features of the room, and with innovative lighting solutions you can do that in the most effective way. Wall lighting is certainly trendy right now, with exposed light fixtures being used in kitchens of all kinds. Perfect when used with metal fixings, sconce lighting has been very popular this year and looks to carry that popularity over into 2015.
