Why
do I need a template?
A visual representation is the best way to assure yourself that
the require piece of stone is going to fit. A template provides
an accurate plan of where your basins and hobs are going to sit,
it tells us what size to make the stone and where to polish it.
Templates are essential especially as in many buildings walls
are not straight and we need to follow them closely to make a
first class job, hence a template shows us how to manufacture
your bespoke piece. The template will also allow us to make sure
that at the time of delivery the stone can negotiate all the stairways
and tight corners found on your site.
Do
you provide a templating service?
Yes. Please tell us if you require us to attend site to make
your templates for you. Some clients feel confident to make
their own templates while others appreciate the in-built insurance
of having us attend site to make templates for them. If we template,
through many years of experience, we ensure that the piece is
correctly manufactured to your required specification. Our helpful
and expert templating staff can answer any queries you may have
in clear plain English.
At
what stage do I call you for templating?
We will need a minimum of three working days notice to schedule
your templating appointment. Please call us as soon as your
kitchen or bathroom fitter is certain of when he is going to
be able to finish. We do occasionally get cancellations or postponed
appointments as other client's fitters may over-run the scheduled
time. Advance notice is essential if you require a quick turnaround.
Can
I decorate or start tiling before you come to site?
Generally the answer is no. Decorating or tiling before your
stone arrives on site can hinder what would be a normally smooth
fixing operation. Tiling, plastering or the fixture of high
level units especially should not take place after we have taken
templates. All these items can change the size of the stone
to be fixed and impede progress on the day of fixing.
What
do I require to be on site when you arrive to make templates?
You must have purchased your taps, hobs, sinks and other items
that you may require surface mounting such as bins, water filters,
etc. If you are having a freestanding cooker this must be fixed
in to its final position.
Do
I need to be on site when you template?
Templates must be an exact replica of the piece required. If
we receive the incorrect information then the piece will be
incorrect and errors cannot be always put right. The best policy
to take is to be in attendance at the time of templating, whether
the template is to be made by your builder or us. We cannot
accept liability for any misinformation given to us by a third
party.
Will
my units require additional support as the stone is heavy?
When we attend site to make your templates we will advise if
additional support is required. Please make sure that the units
and carcasses are in their final position and screwed to the
wall and levelled. Any additional preparation work identified
and requested on our templating visit, such as additional support,
must be attended to before we return with your granite.
What
points do I need to consider before templating?
You must consider the following: -
What
thickness top you require.
What edge detail you require.
Where you would like any joint positions.
What overhang is going to look correct.
Decide upon the final position of your taps, sinks & hob.
Which side of the sink drainer grooves should be moulded.
What height splashback you would like.
Where radius corners are required on the tops.
If
I wish to change part of the detail after you have completed
the templating what should I do?
Call us immediately. As we offer a quick turnaround time your
templates may go into production on the day they are returned
to us. Once we start to cut the stone amendments may not be
able to be made without producing new pieces that we may have
to charge for.
Will
you make my tops to my builder's templates?
Yes we will. In this instance we generally find that we supply
only but if you require us to fix items that have been templated
by your builder, we offer a template checking service. This
means we make a specific arrangement whereby we attend site
to collect the finished templates, view them in templates in-situ
and make any necessary adjustments required for fixing. This
service ensures the finished item meets your specification and
avoids on-site cutting that is quite dusty.
What
do you make templates from?
Templates can be manufactured from MDF, plywood or 'Correx'
plastic sheeting. Please note, we cannot accept templates made
from cardboard or paper as the stone is cut underwater and these
materials will either disintegrate or expand giving us the wrong
reading for the size required.
If
I want to make my own templates, can I buy templating material
from you ?
Yes we always have a stock of 'Correx' as we use it on a daily
basis ourselves.
